Just wanted to give everyone some more information regarding the Gathering of Ohlone Peoples at Coyote Hills and the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Gathering at Alcatraz Island.
The Gathering of Ohlone Peoples is the gathering of the Ohlone Peoples in California where Ohlones will share their culture and history, including music, song, dance, and stories. They’ll discuss contemporary cultural involvements, and demonstrate basket, jewelry, soaproot brush, and dogbane string making. Guests can visit a more than 2,000-year-old village site, play an Ohlone game, make fire without matches, or make a miniature tule boat. One can taste native plant teas, manzanita cider, and acorn soup cooked with heated stones in a basket.
The Indigenous People’s Sunrise Gathering at Alcatraz Island is the commemoration of the 1969-71 occupation of Alcatraz by the “Indians of All Tribes” on Monday, October 8th. This is only a one day event starting at 4:45am.
We hope to see everyone there!
